#133 Lighthouse Brewery – St Arnaud Alpine Ale

Name: St Arnaud Alpine Ale
Brewery: Lighthouse Brewery (Nelson, New Zealand)
Style: Pale Ale (?)
ABV: ?
Source: The only shop in St Arnaud

No time!

Bought this beer in St Arnaud, thinking it was made in St Arnaud. Later found out it’s actually made in Nelson. (Close enough.)

I threw out the bottle after I drank it last night and now can’t find any info online about the ABV or the style. I’m guessing Pale Ale, and since I wasn’t too sloshed afterwards,  5% or less.

On the nose I got heavy metal, with a faint suggestion of malt. In the mouth much more malt – toasty, nutty – actually quite pleasant. Not much else though, just metal and malt, no real hop presence except for the bitterness at the finish.

Overall it was like an office Secret Santa gift – inoffensive, forgettable, and $10 or less. (Terrible comparison sorry, but that’s the headspace I’m in).

Sorry for the bollocks post! I’m about to dash off to the Belgian Beer Cafe and wanted to get this in before I become Geuze-impaired. Christmas eh!?

  1. “Heavy metal on the nose”… what’s that: leather and hairspray?

  2. and sweat, weed and vomit.
